OREANDA-NEWS  The latest police figures show 51 deaths in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and 43 deaths in North Rhine-Westphalia. A few hours earlier, 81 deaths were reported.

The Minister of the Interior of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate Roger Leventz noted that at the moment there are a little less than 100 people missing, about 1.2 thousand more cannot be contacted (including due to a non-working cellular connection), but there is evidence, that they are alive.

The natural disaster struck the worst blow in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate. For example, in the town of Zinzig, as a result of the flood, 12 patients of the boarding school for people with disabilities died. The security officer at night simply could not take them out of the building, as he himself was carried away by the current.
