OREANDA-NEWS. After the return of all German servicemen from Afghanistan, German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer summed up the mixed results of the mission that lasted about 20 years in the Hindu Kush. On the air of the ARD TV company on the evening of Wednesday, June 30, she said that she was glad that all the servicemen returned home healthy.

According to Kramp-Karrenbauer, the Bundeswehr has fulfilled it's tasks in Afghanistan. Over the past two decades, this country «was not a safe place for terrorists» and an entire generation of Afghans had chances to grow up in better conditions than the older generations.

At the same time, the German minister called the attempts of foreign states to create a wrong idea among the Afghans about the goals of their mission a mistake. In particular, the impression about the possibility of quickly creating a state in Afghanistan on the European model was erroneous, she noted. In line with this, Kramp-Karrenbauer called for lessons to be learned for other international operations.

On June 29, the last German soldiers remaining in the military camp in Mazar-I-Sharif were transferred to Germany on four military planes. Among the soldiers who left the Central Asian republic were representatives of the KSK special unit, who guarded the camp and ensured the security of the withdrawal of troops. Thus, the Bundeswehr's mission in Afghanistan is completed.
