OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus, Lidia Yermoshina, announced the impossibility of recognizing the opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as president of the country following the results of the elections in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“If people think that we will reconsider and award the victory to Tikhanovskaya, this does not happen,” she said. As Yarmoshyna explained, the elections can be declared invalid if violations are found.

According to the CEC, 80.1 percent of voters voted for the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, 10.1 percent for Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. She stated that she did not recognize these results. Due to the residents' dissatisfaction with the results of the presidential elections on August 9, protests broke out throughout Belarus.
