OREANDA-NEWS. The US needs to pressure Iran on the nuclear deal so that Russia and China can respect the President of the United States, Joe Biden. This was stated by former speechwriter of ex-President George W. Bush, William McGurn, in a column for The Wall Street Journal.

"Biden has not only an excellent opportunity to prevent the appearance of a nuclear bomb in Tehran, but also to make Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping think twice before taking action on the international arena," the article says.

According to the author, the policy of the White House cannot convince China and Russia to deviate from the chosen foreign policy course, which speaks of Biden's lack of authority among world leaders.

In addition, it is noted that President Ronald Reagan was also considered soft at the beginning of his first term, until he fired 11,300 air traffic controllers who went on strike in August 1981. McGearn noted that Reagan used pressure on the Soviet leadership with aggressive actions such as supplying weapons to Afghanistan.

In his opinion, Biden should also use similar tactics. So, he offered to provide Israel with additional weapons so that the country has the opportunity to attack strategic facilities in Iran, in particular oil storage facilities.

On December 17, a State Department spokesman said that Biden chose the path of diplomacy on the Iranian nuclear issue, but if it fails, he will explore other options.

On the same day, the seventh round of negotiations on the restoration of the Iranian nuclear deal ended in Vienna. European negotiators took a break for the Christmas holidays. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Mikhail Ulyanov did not rule out that the next, eighth round could be the last and longest. At the same time, the negotiators are determined to try to complete the work by the end of January - early February 2022.
