The White House Announced the Early Return of Ambassador Sullivan to Moscow

OREANDA-NEWS The head of the US diplomatic mission in Russia, John Sullivan, will meet in America with the staff of the new US administration and will soon return to Moscow. This was announced by the press secretary of the White House Jen Psaki.
John Sullivan will meet with members of the new administration whom he has not had the opportunity to consult since he agreed to continue serving. He will return to Moscow shortly thereafter.
Psaki does not report whether a meeting between the ambassador and Joe Biden is planned. According to her, the diplomat, first of all, will meet with the new members of the presidential team.
Sullivan was appointed ambassador to Moscow in December 2019 by the Donald Trump administration. In April 2021, CNN reported that the Joe Biden administration had decided not to change the ambassador to Russia.
In mid-March, Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, was recalled for consultations after Biden's harsh remarks about Vladimir Putin. Sullivan was not going to leave Moscow in this situation.
On April 15, the Biden administration introduced new sanctions against Russia. After that, Sullivan was summoned to the Kremlin, and there he was advised to go to Washington for consultations.
On April 20, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov announced that the recalled ambassadors would return to their missions when deemed appropriate.
