OREANDA-NEWS. Experimental spaceship Starhopper caught fire during the test, according to Space.com. Starship is the second stage of the SpaceX reusable space transportation system BFR.  The second stage will receive 6 Raptor engines, the first - 31. The Raptor is distinguished by the greatest thrust-to-weight ratio (the ratio of thrust developed by the power unit to its weight) among all rocket engines ever created.

In a reusable version, the BFR system is designed to launch up to 150 tons of payload to Earth orbit and return to Earth up to 50 tons, as well as comfortable transportation of up to 100 people (2-3 in a cabin) to the Moon and Mars.  The system should fly in 2022.

In the US state of Texas, the SpaceX spacecraft was tested due to the upper part of the ship burning in the first seconds of the test.  Starhopper is the basic version of the Starship rocket, which is designed to send astronauts to the Moon and Mars, and in the future - space tourists.

The fire was extinguished, the damage was insignificant.  Attempt to lift Starhopper into the air failed not for the first time: during the tests in mid-July a fire also occurred.
