OREANDA-NEWSUS President Donald Trump believes that the United States, Russia and China should get rid of nuclear weapons. He expressed this opinion in an interview with Fox News, which was shown on Thursday evening.

“Today I saw President [Vladimir] Putin in Russia declare that he was glad to have the opportunity to help [the United States] with [the DPRK leader] Kim Jong-un and North Korea. We want to get rid of nuclear weapons, we all have to. Russia must get rid of China should get rid of it, "
said the head of the US administration. Earlier on Thursday, CNN, quoting unnamed White House officials, announced that Trump intends to prepare a draft agreement on the reduction of nuclear weapons, which would involve the participation of Russia and China. “The President made it clear that, in his opinion, arms control should be carried out with the participation of Russia and China and should include all types of weapons, warheads and missiles,” the source said.

In 2010, Moscow and Washington signed the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START, the unofficial name is START III). According to the document, each of the parties reduces its strategic offensive weapons in such a way that seven years after its entry into force and subsequently their total numbers do not exceed 700 units for deployed intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), ballistic missile submarines (SLBMs) and heavy bombers (TB), 1,550 units for warheads on them, 800 units for deployed and non-deployed launchers of ICBMs, SLBMs and TBs.

Moscow calls on Washington not to delay the decision on the possibility of extending the treaty and describes the latter as the gold standard in the field of disarmament.
