OREANDA-NEWS. In the event that half of the regions of Ukraine are in the red zone for coronavirus, the government plans to strengthen quarantine measures, but does not intend to announce a total lockdown throughout the country. This statement was made by the Prime Minister of the Republic Denis Shmygal, Ukrinform reports.

According to the politician, the refusal from such measures is due to extremely negative consequences for the economy against the background of its recovery after the previous quarantine. “We do not want to introduce a lockdown, as our economy is gaining momentum, and the lockdown has a very negative effect on economic development and GDP growth,” explained Shmygal.

He also called on Ukrainians to actively vaccinate against infection so that the country's leadership does not have a question about the need to tighten sanitary restrictions and impose bans on the work of certain enterprises. “To avoid lockdowns, you need to be vaccinated,” the prime minister emphasized.

On Monday, October 25, Ukraine recorded a new anti-record for daily mortality from COVID-19 - 734 patients. In just one week, this figure has grown by 36 percent and continues to rise. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 2.9 million cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the country, and almost 70 thousand people have died.

Earlier, the republic's authorities announced the suspension from work of all officials and teachers who, by November 8, will not be vaccinated with at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Those who refuse will not be able to claim to keep their wages.
