OREANDA-NEWS. The UN Security Council for the period of the coronavirus pandemic first introduces an e-mail voting system. This was announced on Monday by Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky.

The diplomat explained that the Russian side from the very beginning confirmed its readiness to "come to the Security Council chamber for voting". “For us, the most problematic of all time schemes was precisely the voting scheme”, he continued. “We didn't want to set a precedent for remote voting by video link”, the deputy representative emphasized. “For various reasons: it isn't spelled out in the UN Charter, there are legal problems, security problems, the system often flies. It was a clumsy option, and we aimed to avoid it, and we succeeded".

According to the diplomat, the UN Security Council may continue to work remotely over the next two months.
