OREANDA-NEWSHundreds of people went to unauthorized meetings in Nur-Sultan and Alma-Ata, correspondents of the Russian media report. In Almaty, anti-government speeches are held in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation, in the capital of Kazakhstan - near the city administration building.

The participants oppose the upcoming presidential elections, demand increased social protection for disabled people, mothers of many children, and protest against the construction of a nuclear power plant. Representatives of the prosecution authorities approached the speakers and informed the audience about the illegality of their actions.

Police officers accompany protesters, but do not interfere with their conduct. In the past, law enforcement agencies stopped such meetings and began to detain immediately after the beginning of the chanting of the first slogans. On Monday, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan warned citizens about the illegality of rallies, calls for holding of which were distributed in social networks and instant messengers.

“The General Prosecutor’s Office warns that if such actions are carried out, the actions of the participants will be qualified as a flagrant violation of the law on the organization and holding of peaceful assemblies and rallies. Law enforcement agencies will be obliged to react and take action against violators,” the supervisory agency noted.

In six weeks, Kazakhstan will host the first round of presidential elections. June 9 should be held an extraordinary presidential election in Kazakhstan. The first president, the leader of the nation or in Kazakh Elbasy, Nursultan Nazarbayev, at the congress of his party “Nur Otan”, proposed the candidature of the acting interim president Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. The congress supported the candidature unanimously.
