OREANDA-NEWSThe UNESCO Executive Board decided to establish an international prize to them. D. I. Mendeleev for achievements in the field of basic sciences. This was reported by the press service of the Organizing Committee of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. The Council will submit this proposal to the UNESCO General Conference, which will be held in November.

“On Monday, October 21, 2019, in Paris at the 207th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, it was decided to establish the international UNESCO-Russia prize named after D. I. Mendeleev for achievements in the basic sciences. The UNESCO Executive Council decided by acclamation, without voting, supporting the institution of the award with applause", the report said.

The size of the prize will be 500 thousand dollars, it will be awarded annually to two separate laureates in the amount of 250 thousand dollars each.Now, under the auspices of UNESCO, 23 awards have been established, including 12 awards in the field of science: 5 awards in the natural sciences and 7 awards in the social and human sciences.
