OREANDA-NEWSThe US Embassy in Moscow will work to strengthen trade and dialogue with the Russian Federation after the arrival of new Ambassador John Sullivan. This is stated in a message distributed on Friday on the page of the diplomatic mission on Facebook.

“We welcome the approval by the Senate of the appointment of John Sullivan as the US Ambassador to the Russian Federation”, the embassy noted. “We will be happy to work together to protect the interests of US citizens, the foreign policy and economic agenda, expand bilateral trade, business and strengthen constructive dialogue”. The US Embassy in Russia reported that Sullivan’s arrival in Moscow is expected soon. “Soon”, the embassy said, answering a question about the timing of Sullivan’s arrival. The embassy added that more specific information can be expected later.

The Senate of the US Congress on Thursday approved the appointment of First Deputy Secretary of State Sullivan to the post of ambassador to the Russian Federation. The Senate’s endorsement is essentially the final step in the process of appointing an ambassador. Now, lawmakers will give the president a notification of their decision, after which US President Donald Trump will swear the ambassador.
