US Insists on Mentioning “Chinese Roots” of Coronavirus in UN Security Council Resolution

The adoption of a joint statement or resolution of the UN Security Council on the fight against coronavirus is complicated by the position of the United States, requiring the inclusion in the document of a mention that the new coronavirus is of Chinese origin. This was announced on Thursday by NBC television with reference to diplomatic sources in the world organization.
According to them, representatives of the PRC are unhappy with this approach of Washington. "We are amazed at the decision of the United States to use this opportunity to politicize the pandemic and the accusations against China that we are against". At the same time, as the television company noted, the Chinese diplomatic mission intends to reflect Beijing’s success in the fight against coronavirus in the forthcoming document.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed the view that a new type of coronavirus, the outbreak of which occurred in Central China at the end of 2019 and spread around the world, should be called the "Chinese virus".
