OREANDA-NEWS  Turkey welcomes the UN General Assembly resolution on Palestine and calls on the international community to stop Israel, the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution expanding the rights of Palestine in the world organization, as well as recommending that the Security Council positively reconsider the country's membership in the UN. 143 countries voted in favor of the resolution, nine were against, and 25 abstained.

"We welcome the resolution of the UN General Assembly, which will allow Palestine to participate in the work of the UN with greater rights and privileges. This resolution confirms the strong support of the overwhelming majority of the international community for the right of the Palestinian people to their own State and the two-State solution," the statement said.

"We take this opportunity to call on the international community to take concrete steps to stop Israel's atrocities in Gaza and recognize the state of Palestine," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
