OREANDA-NEWS The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts an increase in the total size of Russia's public debt in 2023 to 21.2% of GDP, and in 2024 to 21.8% of GDP, follows from the IMF report.

According to the data published in the document, after 2024, the size of the state debt of the Russian Federation will begin to decrease consistently and in 2028 will amount to 18.2% of GDP.

For 2022, the IMF estimated the level of Russia's public debt at 18.9% of GDP.

The volume of Russia's public debt by the end of 2022, according to the conclusion of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation on the execution of the federal budget, amounted to 14.9% of GDP. In 2023, according to the Ministry of Finance, it will reach 17.6% of GDP. The Russian authorities have repeatedly stressed that the size of the country's public debt will not exceed the safe level of 20% and will remain one of the lowest in the world.
