OREANDA-NEWS. May 15, 2009. The foreign ministers of Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are in Moscow for a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of SCO member states.

The participants discussed the outcome of the CFM meeting and the preparations for the SCO summit in Yekaterinburg in June.

The meeting saw an exchange of views on the current situation and outlook for developing cooperation within the SCO, and discussed priority and strategic tasks to further consolidate the organisation and make it more effective.

The President said that this meeting of SCO foreign ministers, like the SCO defence ministers’ meeting on April 29, is an essential event in the run-up to the SCO summit. 

Taking part in the meeting were Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Sergei Prikhodko, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Marat Tazhin, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Kadyrbek Sarbaev, Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Khamrokhon Zarifi, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov, and Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Bolat Nurgaliev.
