OREANDA-NEWS. July 14, 2009. Belarus and the International Organization for Migration have managed to establish serious relations, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Aleinik noted during his meeting with Director General of the International Organization for Migration William Lacy Swing in Minsk.

Belarus is the first country that William Swing has visited in his new position. According to the Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus, the visit of the IOM Director General will give a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation. Sergei Aleinik noted that Belarus joined the IOM a short time ago, in 2005. At the same time, for this short period, we have managed to do a lot, he underscored. “We have implemented a number of the joint measures including President’s proposals concerning the fighting human trafficking. The International Organization for Migration carries out big and long-term projects on fighting human trafficking in Belarus. Within the framework of these programmes, the Organization helps Belarusian specialists develop legislation in this area as well,” he said.

Sergei Aleinik expressed gratitude to the leadership of the International Organization for Migration for creation of the international centre for training migration officers and personnel for fighting human trafficking on the base of the Academy of the Belarusian Interior Ministry.
