OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2009. Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Yukio Hatoyama on his election as Prime Minister and on taking office.

During their conversation both parties expressed their firm intention to make efforts to further develop Russian-Japanese relations on the basis of genuine partnership principles and mutually beneficial cooperation, and to maintain a constructive dialogue at the highest level.

In light of this, Mr Medvedev and Mr Hatoyama agreed to continue exchanging views on bilateral and international issues in the near future, namely in New York and Pittsburgh, where the Russian President and Japanese Prime Minister will take part in a meeting of the UN General Assembly and the G20 summit respectively.

On the previous day Dmitry Medvedev sent a congratulatory message to Yukio Hatoyama on his election as Prime Minister of Japan.
