OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2010. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov met on January 27 with Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon on the sidelines of the International Conference on Afghanistan in London.

During the conversation the sides had a thorough exchange of views on cooperation between Russia and Canada in the Group of Eight and Group of Twenty, as well as within the framework of the Arctic Council and the cooperation among the five Arctic powers. They also discussed Afghanistan conflict settlement, and humanitarian assistance of the international community to Haiti in the light of the recent devastating earthquake.

Certain issues of the bilateral agenda were touched on, including visa matters in the run-up to major international events involving Russia in Canada, in particular, the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
