OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2010. President of Turkmenistan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General of the Army Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a regular meeting of the National Security Council.

Presenting the agenda, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the meeting would focus on the work done by the military and law enforcement agencies in the past seven months agencies and the priority issues related to further improvement of their activities.

Noting with satisfaction that the Turkmen people gained labour victories in an atmosphere of peace and happiness that reigned in our Fatherland, the national leader emphasized that this had become possible due to a worthy contribution of law enforcement officers and military servants who performed their solemn duty to the Fatherland in compliance with Turkmenistan’s military doctrine that was purely defensive in nature. Abiding by the firm principles for peace underlying this doctrine, the Turkmen state took the comprehensive measures to strengthen the material and technical basis of the military and law enforcement agencies along with other sectors of the national economy and purchase necessary equipment and machines for the armed forces.

The defenders of the Fatherland devoted ardently to their military duty and sovereign neutral Turkmenistan strengthened the defensive capacity of the country and guaranteed security and inviolability of the state border, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said noting that their everyday tasks were fulfilled at the top level in strict accordance with the provisions and requirements of military regulations.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces gave the floor to the Security Council members, the high-ranking law enforcement officials who reported on the situation in the sectors under their supervision and the fulfillment of the Turkmen leader’s instructions.

Particular attention was given to the progress in implementing the military reform initiated by the Turkmen leader to strengthen and modernize the material and technical basis of the armed forces, train highly qualified military personnel and create the conditions conducive to life and service of military servants and their families. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that these critical issues would be kept under strict control for Turkmenistan as a sovereign state invariably committed to the status of positive neutrality must strengthen the defensive capacity of the army that stood as a guarantor of peace, happiness and sustainable development of the country resolutely advancing along the path of progress and welfare.

The meeting agenda focused on the progress in implementing the programme initiated by the Turkmen leader to combat illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs.

The President emphasized that the additional measures including procurement of state-of-the-art equipment and devices would be taken to strengthen and modernize the material and technical basis of the State Drug Control Service in order to counter this dangerous social evil. The Turkmen leader instructed the relevant service to activate drug abuse prevention activities and raise awareness of local population against drug abuse.

Thanking the national leader for the paramount attention given to strengthening the national army that was provided with modern military equipment and the unceasing concern for the welfare of military servants, the Security Council members assured that they would put every effort to fulfill rigorously the tasks.

Upon concluding the meeting Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished good health, family wellbeing and every success in their noble efforts to guarantee a peaceful, prosperous and happy life to the people of Turkmenistan to those present.
