OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2010. About one thousand international observers will monitor the presidential elections in Belarus, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told an online conference on the BelTA website on 23 November.

Taking part in the observation will be the OSCE mission; 40 long-term observers representing this organization are already working in Belarus. About 400 OSCE short-term observers will arrive in Belarus on the eve of the elections. The CIS Executive Committee is expected to deploy the same number of observers or even more. A total of 195 certificates have already been issued for international observers. But this does not mean that all of them are in Belarus now, Lidia Yermoshina said. For example, a certificate was issued for Pavel Borodin, but he will come to Belarus on the eve of the elections.

Independent foreign observers are also expected to come. They represent central election commissions of the CIS states, as well as Georgia, Lithuania and Latvia. Besides, the Foreign Ministry of Belarus will invite a number of authoritative politicians from other states to work independently, not as part of any missions.

Over 5,000 domestic observers have been accredited. According to Lidia Yermoshina, by the start of the early voting, their number might increase manifold. For example, about 30,000 domestic observers worked at the 2006 presidential elections.
