OREANDA-NEWS. December 17, 2010. Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting on extra measures to ensure law and order, and also had a working meeting with the Governor of Ryazan Region and visited a number of Interior Ministry facilities.

The main subjects on the agenda at the meeting were the law on the police force, which will come into force on March 1, 2011, and more effective measures to ensure law and order and combat extremism.

The situation in Moscow and other major Russian cities following the mass gatherings on December 11 was also discussed.

Mr Medvedev earlier had a working meeting with Governor of Ryazan Region Oleg Kovalyov, who briefed him on the social and economic situation in the region.

The President also visited the Ryazan branch of the Interior Ministry University in Moscow, and the Ryazan City Police Station.
