OREANDA-NEWS. May 23, 2011.  The two-day seminar focused on international experience in gender policy with the aim of its further implementation into the national law-enforcement policy started in the Turkmen capital. The seminar was organized by the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The members of the working group of the Interagency Commission for Monitoring Implementation of the International Human Rights Commitments of Turkmenistan participate in the seminar. UNFPA Expert Ms. Skurko was invited to take part in the forum as an international consultant.

As is known, joining to the key international acts on human rights including declarations and conventions on women’s rights, Turkmenistan takes concrete successive steps in this sphere. The gender equality principal as well as creation of equal opportunities for men and women in all spheres of the social and political life in compliance with the Constitution of Turkmenistan and generally-recognized international norms and standards are prioritized by the national policy of the country pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which serves as a reliable guarantor of progressive development of the modern Turkmen state and society.

In the framework of the seminar its participants reviewed and analyzed the relevant modern international experience and underlined the usefulness of development of further cooperation in this sphere.
