OREANDA-NEWS. United Company RUSAL, the world’s largest producer of aluminium and alumina, has today announced production results for the first quarter of 2007 (period ending 31st March) achieved by the combined facilities of RUSAL, SUAL and the alumina assets of Glencore.

Pro forma first quarter production highlights were the following:

• Aluminium production rose by 2.5% compared to the same period of last year and reached 999,415 tonnes;
• Alumina production was flat, compared to the First Quarter of 2006, and equalled 2,740,168 tonnes;
• Bauxite production decreased by 8.6% and reached 4,127,607 tonnes, which is due to temporary mining shortages in Guinea and at the Middle Timan bauxite deposit in the Komi Republic;
• Value-added casthouse products manufacturing increased by 12.5% and amounted to 48% of primary aluminium production;
• Foil production rose by 21.2%.
