OREANDA-NEWS. March 30, 2007. Sberbank acting as a Senior Lead Arranger and Со-Underwriter joined a bank syndicate arranged for LLC Khakas Aluminium Smelter by BNP Paribas and major international banks such as Bayerische Landesbank, Calyon, HSBC Bank Plc, Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd., Natexis, Societe Generale and Sumitomo Mitsubishi Banking Corporation. Sberbank is the only Russian bank taking part in the deal. The USD500 mln loan facility was granted for a 12-year term, reported the press-centre of  Sberbank. The Smelter construction began in 2004. Then in June 2004 Sberbank provided the USD590 mln loan facility to a Special Purpose Vehicle LLC Khakas Aluminium Smelter for a 10-year term on the project finance basis and collateralised mainly with the project assets.


The Smelter annual project capacity is 300,000 tones of primary aluminum. An advanced technology of pre-baked anodes is used at the Smelter as one of the latest and environment friendly aluminium production technologies available today. The project meets the Equator Principles and so complies with the requirements of national and international law in the field of environment, health and industrial safety.  Participation in the syndicate proves Sberbank's leadership in project finance in Russia and strong partnership relations with the major foreign banks and Russian companies.
