OREANDA-NEWS. May 29, 2007. Construction of hydropower stations is not as easy as building standard residential houses and social functions structures. Each hydropower station is unique, reported the press-centre of JSC “Regional Power Generation Company”.

An individual project is developed for each station depending on particular geological conditions and water resource characteristics. An individual set of equipment designed for each station is manufactured and tested at special factories. According to the tests’ results and the projected water head experts define and set maximum capacity of hydroelectric generator, permissible vibrations as well as the water flow needed for the turbine rotation.

To guarantee well coordinated functioning of the station equipment after the factory tests it is tested directly at the location; for this purpose experts from well-known firm “ORGRES Company” (branch of JSC “Engineering Centre of UES”) come from Moscow.

Recently “ORGRES Company” sent a group of four experts to Gelbakh HPS: George Nikolsky, Igor Soloviev, Mikhail Morozov and Andrei Chernikh. The team brought its own testing equipment to measure vibrations and power capacity at the operating hydroelectric generators of the station.

The tests took almost a week and now they are completed. The specialists from “ORGRES Company” returned to Moscow. In the Engineering Centre they process the data obtained during their field tests and analyze the information. According to the analysis results the experts will give recommendations on the optimal operating modes for the generators in order to reach the highest efficiency of the projected capacity, as well as recommendations on how to avoid exceeding vibrations.
