OREANDA-NEWS. On August 22, 2007 UC RUSAL, the world’s largest producer of aluminium and alumina, announced the restart of Alpart and Windalco alumina refineries which were suspended on August 18 ahead of Hurricane Dean, reported the press-centre of UC RUSAL.
 
The facilities remain undamaged as a result of the efficient work carried out by the refineries’ technical services teams.

About Alpart
Alpart Alumina Refinery is situated close to Mandeville, a town on the island of Jamaica. The facility currently employs 781 people. Production capacity at the refinery amounts to 1,65 mln tonnes per year. The bauxite used for alumina production is extracted from the facility’s own bauxite mines.

About Windalco
West Indies Alumina Company (WINDALCO) is also situated on the island of Jamaica. The company comprises two alumina refineries (Ewarton Works and Kirkvine Works), a shipping port (Port Esquivel), bauxite mines in Schwallenburgh (Ewarton) and Russell Place (Kirkvine) and farms in Manchester and St. Ann. The production volume of the company is 1,25 mln tonnes of alumina annually. WINDALCO currently employs 1,141 people.
