OREANDA-NEWS. September 12, 2007. At the exhibition in Kazan held on 30 August KAMAZ presented tractors T-215 which will be produced in 2008.

Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of KAMAZ Inc. presented the first 8 models of the new agricultural product to the guests of the exhibition: Mintimer Shaymiyev, RT President, and Sergey Stepashin, Chairman of the RF Chamber of Accounts.

Already in the early nineties the Kama plant wanted to produce tractors. But only in 2002 the tractor KT-240K was designed on the basis of the KAMAZ units. Later KAMAZ carried on negotiations with 6 European companies and chose the holding company ARGO SPA (Italy) launching tractors at the plants Landini (Italy) and McCormick (England). It was decided that the English brand of tractors has the best balance “price-quality”. The main aggregate of the future tractor – an engine – will be produced at the KAMAZ areas next year.

Sergey Kogoghin said that KAMAZ will get 10-20% of the new market. Moreover, the business-plan meant for the capacities of the plant is ready: 2500 tractors at the first stage (2008) and 400 tractors at the second production stage (2009).

According to Nikolay Abrukov, Deputy Director General of special equipment of the Trade and Finance Company, it will be production with a separate line. The first lot of tractors is with Iveco engines. But the Cummins engines of the joint enterprise “Cummins-Kama” will be installed on the tractors produced in 2008. Also it’s planned to localize a cab. It will be assembled, welded and painted at the KAMAZ areas. And different small components: headlights, plastic interior and exterior details, seats etc. will be home-produced too.

Nikolay Abrukov observed that the official name of the tractor is KAMAZ-T-215. Though, the KAMAZ tractors will probably bear a more original name.
