OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2007. By 2011, investments into seaport Olya will total EUR 600 million, authorities of Astrakhan region report. According to Alexander Zhilkin, Governor of Astrakhan region, seaport Olya being actively built in Limanski district of Astrakhan region will reach its design capacity of 30 million tonnes within coming four years. Today, the complete transport hub of Astrakhan region handles 7-8 million tonnes of cargo.

Mr. Zhilkin says the port is running smoothly: the investments have been attracted, federal budget participates in construction, the pool of entrepreneurs has been created. The only problem of the port is attraction of personnel. In order to solve the problem the region’s vocational schools are being adapted according to the task. Besides, residential areas are to be developed for port workers. Besides, there is a project aimed at decreasing of load on Astrakhan through construction of a bridge across Volga in 2009-2011. The project is to cost RUR 17 billion.
