OREANDA-NEWS. November 2, 2007. In October 2007, CJSC Transmashholding delivered the second set of 10 rail cars designated 81-714.5B/717.5B and manufactured by JSC Metrowagonmash (MWM, Mytishchi) to the Baku metro (the city of Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan).

The set included four 81-717.5B head cars and six 81-714.5B intermediate cars.

The shipment was performed under the contract for manufacture and delivery of 25 metro cars concluded between the MWM and Baku metro on November 28, 2006.

The October shipment was the second performed under the contract. The rest of five metro cars will be delivered by the end of 2007.

The MWM rail cars have been under exploitation at the Baku metro for over 30 years now. The first shipment was carried out in 1973. The Baku metro rail car fleet counts 269 cars with 222 (82%) manufactured by Metrowagonmash.

81-714/81-717.5B technical features in brief:

The 81-717.5B is a head car with a driver’s cab, the 81-714.5B is an intermediate car without a driver’s cab. The 81-717.5B and 81-714.5B are all-wheel drive motor cars. The design speed of the cars is 90 km/h.

The cars are designed for multiple-unit system use and are operational with a train of up to eight cars. The 81-717.5B cars are placed at the head and at the end of the train to make it suitable width=100% for shuttle work.

The car body is made of low-carbon steel and has an all-welded support frame. The outer coat is made of riffled steel plates providing better rigidness. The cars have improved sound insulation. The cars are fitted with two air conditioning systems, namely natural influx-and-extract ventilation and forced ventilation. The cars are fitted with a DC electric tractive motors with smooth field regulation (motors excitation) designed for tractive and electrodynamic resistor slowdown modes. Every car is fitted with four 110 kW self-ventilated tractive motors, two for each bogie.
