OREANDA-NEWS. Cyprus-registered Broswellio Ltd acquired a 22.52% stake in mobile operator Telesystems Ukraine (People.Net brand). Another shareholder, Khimprom, sold a 4.95% stake out of the 24.97% stake it held. The amount of these two transactions and the buyer of the Khimprom's shares had not been disclosed. People.Net provides a full range of telecom services including 3G mobile services based on CDMA technology and posted for 1H2007 a net loss of USD 6.4mn.

Fixed-net operator Datagroup announced to develop a LMDS short-range (7-20 km) broadband mobile network that operates on microwave frequencies. LMDS stands for Local Multipoint Distribution Service and is used for the last mile. The network will be developed by the U.S. based company Hughes Network Systems. Datagroup plans to invest USD 20mn in the development of the network.

There have been already long time rumors in the market that the real target behind the aggressive marketing campaign without chance of success behind People.Net's 3G network was finding a buyer of the company. It looks like that at least this target was somewhat successful. But People.Net is still one of the smallest mobile operators with approximately 100,000 subscribers in comparison to 23mn of Kyivstar. "The decision of Datagroup to development a mobile network for the last mile looks logical and solves the problem of the company," Millennium Capital experts conclude.
