OREANDA-NEWS. December 3, 2007. Sovcomflot has been awarded the prestigious title of “Energy Transporter of the Year 2007” at the Platts 9th Annual Global Energy Awards. At a ceremony held last night, at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, Sovcomflot emerged victorious amongst strong competition to win the award.

Sovcomflot becomes the first energy shipping company to receive the “Energy Transporter of the Year” award. It has done so in the face of stiff competition from pipeline and energy grid distribution companies, thereby raising the profile of the international shipping industry.

The Platts Global Energy Awards were established in 1999 as a way of recognizing outstanding achievement and vision in the energy industry. The Energy Transporter of the Year award acknowledges excellence in the movement of energy - whether electricity or the physical transportation of natural gas, coal or oil.

The judges, who included energy ministers, national regulators, and past and present heads of major energy companies, were looking for a transporter who matched business efficiency with technical innovation, who had a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection and a world-class safety record. The judges recognized Sovcomflot as a service champion for their customers at both ends of the transport chain, constantly seeking innovations in management as well as technology and delivering tangible value to the energy supply chain.

Sergey Frank, President and CEO of Sovcomflot, said “This award is recognition of all the hard work and effort that Sovcomflot employees, at sea and ashore, have made this year. It is a further validation of Sovcomflot’s successful strategy of technical innovation backed by a real commitment to customer service. We are delighted with the award and look forward to building on this success.”
