OREANDA-NEWS. February 6, 2008. In January 2008, throughput of port Kavkaz grew by 10.43%, year-on-year, to 369,300 tonnes of cargo. In the reported period, export totaled 276,850 tonnes (+13.87%, year-on-year), import - 92,450 tonnes (+1.3%, year-on-year). In January, transshipment of general cargo totaled 111,190 tonnes, oil products - 258,110 tonnes. In the reported period the port handled 121 vessels against 152 vessels in January 2007.

Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2,600-meter long railway line. The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
