OREANDA-NEWS. On 20 February 2008 was announced, that more than 100,000 square metres of municipal housing are to be commissioned in central Moscow in 2008. It is the first time when the district is to reach such a building volume at the expense of the budget.

“From this year priority will be given to the construction of housing at the expense of the budget. First of all [it will be done] for moving the citizens from dilapidated and dangerous houses,” Sergey Baydakov, prefect of the central administrative district of Moscow said.

The prefect added that other priorities of the development of central Moscow were to create two scale programs concerning the liquidation of communal apartments and the construction of new ones as well as the reconstruction of schools built before World War II.
