OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2008. In January-May, 2008, throughput of Tallinn port totaled 12.788.7 million tonnes of cargo (31.7%, year-on-year), the port informs. In May, the port’s throughput amounted to 2.341.1 million tonnes (-30.3%, year-on-year).

In the 5-month period, transshipment of import cargo totaled 1.447 million tonnes, export – 954,000 tonnes, transit – some 10 million tonnes (-37.6%).

Transshipment of loose dry cargo fell by 73.9%, year-on-year, to 1.37 million tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – by 18.5%, year-on-year, to 9 million tonnes, general cargo – by 18.1% to 275,200 tonnes.

Transshipment of coal handled in the port fell from 3.1 million tonnes in January-May 2007 to 84,000 tonnes in January-May 2008, fertilizers – from 957,400 tonnes to 403,000 tonnes. Container throughput grew by 1.5% to 73,261 TEU. In the reported period, the port handled 545,000 tonnes of containerized cargo and 415,000 ro-ro units.

Passenger traffic grew by 16.2% to 2.543.8 million passengers with the majority passengers carried by Tallinn-Helsinki line (2.177.5 million) and Tallinn-Stockholm line (295,500).

The number of calls fell by 11.1% to 3,485 including 928 calls of cargo vessels.
