OREANDA-NEWS. July 9, 2008. Atomstroyexport CJSC continues enhancing its engineering competences so as to successfully implement its contracts for the construction of nuclear power plants abroad and contracts in the field of radioactive waste treatment.

One more important step towards this end is the opening of a Design Office in Dimitrovgrad. The official inauguration of the office took place on July 8 2008 with the first vice president of Atomstroyexport Alexander Glukhov attending the ceremony.

The new office comprises professional engineers and designers developing liquid and solid radioactive waste treatment systems in the framework of Atomstroyexport’s contracts for the construction of Kudankulam NPP in India and Bushehr NPP in Iran.

In process of operation nuclear power plants produce spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. Today, all NPP construction projects envisage development of relevant systems for treatment and storage of this waste. This is a guarantee of ecological and nuclear safety of the plants. This is exactly what the new office will do.

The office will be involved in the radioactive waste treatment contracts under the Belene NPP and other NPP construction projects to be implemented by Atomstroyexport.

The office will also take part in the implementation of Atomstroyexport’s contracts with Russian and foreign partners for the provision of engineering support for the creation of radioactive waste treatment infrastructure and for the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.

The office will take an active part in the implementation of the federal target program on nuclear and radiation safety 2008–2015.

Consolidation of design and engineering resources enables Atomstroyexport to develop and license own technologies. To have own technologies means to have additional competitive assets.

Presently, Atomstroyexport is implementing four contracts in the field of radioactive waste treatment in Russia, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Ukraine and is participating in several tenders in the sphere.

By intensifying its activities in the field of NPP construction and radioactive waste treatment, Atomstroyexport is rising to a new level of development as an engineering company and is enlarging the geography of its contacts.
