OREANDA-NEWS. July 9, 2008. In the first half of 2008, Commercial Port of Vladivostok handled 3.154.3 million tonnes of cargo (+54%, year-on-year), the company informs. In the reported period, the company handled 1.714.7 million tonnes of export cargo; 889,500 tonnes of import cargo; 550,100 tonnes of coastal trade cargo. In January-June, Commercial Port of Vladivostok handled 1,654 vessels and 37,530 wagons.

In June, 2008, Commercial Port of Vladivostok handled 491,500 tonnes of cargo (+14%) including 199,200 tonnes of export cargo; 187,400 tonnes of import cargo; 104,900 tonnes of coastal trade cargo.

Export cargoes continue to replace import: in the first half of 2007, export accounted for 41% of the company’s total throughput, import – 36%; while in 2008, export accounted for 54% import - 28%.

In the first half of 2008, transshipment of metal and hard components increased over 4-fold due to growth of the demand for Russian metal goods in the states of the Asia-Pacific region.

Export of containerized cargo grew by 30%, import – by 27%. In January-June, 2008, containers accounted for 27% of the port’s total throughput. In the reported period, the port handled 121,066 TEU (+26%, year-on-year).

As for import, the second largest segment after containers is automobiles and specialized equipment:  31% of import (127,802 units).

As for coastal trade cargo, the first largest segment is containers (34,004 TEU, + 20%), the second – bulk oil products (178,600 tonnes, almost 1.5-fold growth).
