OREANDA-NEWS. On 08 August 2008 was announced, that around 8 million sq m of social housing are to be built in Moscow in 3 years to come.

“We commissioned over 2.5 million sq m of social housing in 2007. We plan to build more millions of square metres for social purposes this year. Around 8 million sq m are to be erected in 3 years to come,” Vladimir Resin, first deputy Moscow City Mayor, head of Associate Board of Architecture, Construction, Development and Reconstruction of Moscow, told journalists on August 7.

According to Mr Resin, about 39,000 families from Moscow improved their living conditions and moved to new flats at the end of 2007. Particularly, 8,500 families moved from the dilapidated five-storey houses to new flats. Besides, City Hall is to have 187 cottages for large families built in 2008 according to the social housing programs.
