OREANDA-NEWS  On 02 December was announced, that Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre will have undergone reconstruction by late 2010 or early 2011, Aleksandr Avdeev, the Russian Culture Minister, declared at a private briefing on November 27.

Bolshoi Theatre was initially expected to be opened in 2009 but this summer the deadline was put off till 2010.

“We will stick this schedule but I don’t rule out the reconstruction will go on till early 2011,” the official said.

Mr Avdeev emphasized that it was very important to have all safety requirements complied as the theatre wouldn’t open without it.

According to the Russian Culture Minister, the reconstruction period has been extended due to a poor manager of the project, the inefficient scheme of cooperation and coordination of the companies involved in the project as well as the lack of collaboration with City Hall and the variable pace of completing different types of work.

Mr Andreev added that a new manager of the project, Yakov Sarkisov, had a great deal of experience in developing theatres. For instance, he has already built the new stage of Bolshoi Theatre.
