OREANDA-NEWS. July 13, 2009. The Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) granted the status of self-regulating organization to two non-profit partnerships established in the nuclear industry – the Association of Organizations Building, Reconstructing and Overhauling Nuclear Facilities “SOYUZATOMSTROY” and the Association of Organizations Carrying Out the Architectural Engineering of Nuclear Facilities “SOYUZATOMPROEJT.”

“The status will allow us to grant work permits to the members of our self-regulating organizations,” says the advisor of the director general of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, the coordinator of the project to establish self-regulating organizations in Russia’s nuclear industry Viktor Opekunov.

The last changes to the national legislation stipulate that starting from Jan 1 2010 all work permits issued in the field of construction should be annulled and for executing construction and engineering activities a company should obtain a work permit from a self-regulating organization. “Now, the companies executing construction and engineering activities in the nuclear industry and having joined corporate self-regulating organizations will be able to continue their activities: even though the permit issue procedure is rather time-consuming, we will shortly certify all organizations acting in the field of engineering and construction,” says Opekunov. The work permits to be issued to the members of SOYUZATOMSTROY and SOYUZATOMPROEKT will authorize them to carry out construction, reconstruction and maintenance activities not only at nuclear facilities but also under hazardous and technically complicated projects.

One more corporate self-regulating organization, SOYUZATOMGEO, is going to apply to Rostekhnadzor for the status by July 15 2009. This organization specializes in the field of engineering survey.
