OREANDA-NEWS. On 13 July 2009 was announced, that the meeting of the Selection Committee held in UN office in Astana to consider the applications of non-governmental organizations for the contest of projects aimed at improving the electoral activity of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This activity was within the framework of the joint project of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the UN Development Programme in Kazakhstan, funded by the British Embassy in the Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and the UN Development Programme in Kazakhstan "Technical Assistance to the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan".

The Selection Committee comprising of 5 persons included representatives of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan, the British Embassy in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, the UN Volunteers Programme in Kazakhstan.

Contest announcements was published on 22 March 2009 in the "Egemen Kazakhstan", "Kazakhstanskaya Pravda" newspapers , as well as on the official web-site of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the UN Development Programme in Kazakhstan.

Totally, 5 applications were submitted for the contest:

1. "Improving the civil and political participation of rural youth through education election law," Public Fund ?Pavlodar regional governance school”, Pavlodar;

2. "Implementation of the training seminar - training to raise awareness of citizens about the electoral process", West Kazakhstan oblast Public Association "Center for support of rural initiatives", Uralsk;

3. "Promoting the involvement of participation of youth in the electoral process of the Republic of Kazakhstan," "Kazakhstan Association of International Law", Almaty;

4. "The educational campaign to improve the electoral activity of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan," Youth Public Association "Active youth of SKO", Petropavlovsk;

5. "Improving the electoral activity of youth of Zhalagash, Karmakshy and Syrdariya rayons of Kyzylorda oblast ", Public Fund "Nur -57", Kyzylorda;

The following three applications were approved for funding on the basis of the discussion and voting:

1. "Improving the civil and political participation of rural youth through education election law," Public Fund  Pavlodar regional governance school”, Pavlodar;

2. "Promoting the involvement of participation of youth in the electoral process of the Republic of Kazakhstan," "Kazakhstan Association of International Law", Almaty;

3. " Improving the electoral activity of youth of Zhalagash, Karmakshy and Syrdariya rayons of Kyzylorda oblast ", Public Fund "Nur -57", Kyzylorda.
