OREANDA-NEWS. August 03, 2009. The last tourist hurt in a traffic accident in Antalya (Turkey) successfully returned to Russia. According to ROSNO’s doctors, his condition is satisfactory, reported the press-centre of ROSNO.

IC ROSNO has completed performance of obligations related to medical and medico-transportation assistance and return to Russia of all injured tourists. The aggregate volume of expenses covered by ROSNO under this insured accident equalled 28,500 US dollars.

On July 19, the bus carrying tourists from St. Petersburg got in a traffic accident near Belbedi, 40 km from Antalya, on its way from the hotel to the airport. According to the preliminary data, this accident resulted from tire blowout. In this road accident, 12 people were hurt, including 8 tourists whose condition required hospitalization, with 2 of those needing surgery as soon as possible.

All tourists hurt in the accident had been insured with ROSNO under travellers’ policies.

Via its official representative in Turkey — the assistance company Kaliptus-Assistance — ROSNO promptly arranged medical aid to the injured tourists in the best Turkish clinics and guaranteed that the services rendered by these medical institutions would be paid for. On the same day, the two seriously injured tourists underwent surgery and were placed into intensive care. Other tourists, whose condition did not need further stay in hospital, were accommodated in hotels by the assistance company.

Despite the lack of flight tickets, as the tourist season was at its peak, the insurance company managed to arrange prompt return of the tourists back home. On 21 July, 10 Russians arrived in Moscow by a scheduled Aeroflot flight, where they were examined by the doctors from the Accident Medicine Centre invited by the insurer. After the condition of all present tourists was recognized as satisfactory, ROSNO arranged the final flight of 8 clients to St. Petersburg. Two of the tourists decided to stay in Moscow.

At the same time, ROSNO arranged 2 consultations by a doctor from the Accident Medicine Centre to one injured Russian citizen still held in intensive care, in order to provide additional monitoring of the state of his health. Furthermore, throughout his stay in the clinic, ROSNO’s service department had been monitoring the quality of the rendered medical aid. Furthermore, IC ROSNO assumed the costs of stay in Turkey and return of the victim’s close friend to St. Petersburg on 24 July 2009.

On 28 July, the hospital doctors issued a permit to repatriate the last of the injured tourists, with no medical escort needed.

On 30 July, the tourist and the accompanying relative, whose tickets were paid for by IC ROSNO, arrived in St. Petersburg. In the Pulkovo airport, the injured tourist was met and examined by doctors from the Accident Medicine Centre. His condition was found to be satisfactory.

ROSNO’s reimbursement of expenses related to medical aid, hotel accommodation and medical transportation services rendered to the victims of the 19 July accident equalled 28,500 US dollars. The company has performed all of its obligations.

"Unfortunately, Turkey, which is one of the Russians’ most popular tourist destinations, also remains the „leader“ by quantity of traffic accidents. In this situation, the choice of a company to render assistance to our clients is very important, since the promptness and quality of aid directly depends on the assistance company. We thank our partner, medical assistance company Kaliptus-Assistance, for its high professionalism and efficient operation. In addition, while the tourist season is at its peak, I would like to urge tourists to pay more attention to the insurance coverage acquired for the duration of vacations abroad. The minimum insurance coverage is not always sufficient to arrange medical treatment. Therefore, you need to expand it beforehand, especially if you leave for vacations with children and elderly", noted Ms. Svetlana Schwab, head of ROSNO’s Travellers’ Insurance Department.

ROSNO has been providing travellers’ insurance coverage since 1992. The company has developed a wide range of products for citizens travelling in Russia and abroad. According to the data for the 1st half of the year 2009, ROSNO provided its travellers’ insurance services to over 1 million clients, and paid over 4 mln US dollars of insurance compensations pursuant to its obligations.
