OREANDA-NEWS. On 27 August 2009 was announced, that the installation of new 12MW turbogenerator has been started at the Samara SDPS of the Volga TGC (the Generation Volga Division of the IES-Holding). The project at the cost of 278 million rub. has been named "selenit" ("moonstone").  It is implemented within the limits of the Diadem Investment Program, where each of 16 largest investment projects of the IES received a symbolic name of one of the jewelry stones or minerals.

The contractor executing work on the Selenit Project is Samara PRP. The payback periods planned for a new turbogenerator is about 10 years. It will produce the first kilowatt hours as early as at the beginning of the next year, which will be anniversary for the plant. In the year 2010 Samara SDPS will celebrate its 110th anniversary.

The installing of a new turbogenerator made by the Kaluga Turbine Plant is of great importance for Samara historical part receiving heat and power directly from Samara SDPS.  Having been reconstructed, the plant will increase its installed capacity from 49 MW to 61 MW.

New Selenit generating facilities will significantly improve reliability of power supply for the Samara central districts. The additional 12 MW will enable providing electric power for up to 1 mln sq. meters of new housing that is sufficient for accommodation of 50 thousand people.

Due to the Selenit Project, Samara SDPS will be able to take additional heat load at the rate of 30 Gcal/h. It will be sufficient to connect about 50 new multi-storey houses located in the Samara central districts to centralized heat supply.

Let's recall that a new turbogenerator will replace the AEG turbine, which was shut-down a year ago and had been operated at SDPS for nearly 80 years. Today it is located in the collection of the Berlin Museum of Technology.
