OREANDA-NEWS. September 18, 2009. In January-August, 2009, the ports of the Baltic states handled 87.01 million tonnes of cargo (-1.9%, year-on-year).

In the 8-month period, the port of Tallinn handled 20.77 million tonnes of cargo (+6.5%, year-on-year). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo by the terminals of Tallinna Sadam (mainly heavy fuel oil) accounts for 75.2% of the total volume.

Then comes the port of Riga – 20.09 million tonnes (+3.5%) including 4.41 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (mainly oil products), which is a 31.4-pct increase, year-on-year.

The third position is held by the port of Ventspils with its 0.9-pct decrease. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo (mainly oil products) amounted to 11.98 million tonnes (+14.5%), crude oil – 0.45 million tonnes (- 56.9%).

The port of Liepaja handled 2.72 million tonnes of cargo (- 6.4%) including 0.41 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (- 38.6%) with oil products amounting to 0.20 million tonnes (- 50.3%). 

Minor ports of Latvia handled 803,900 tonnes of cargo.

The port of Klaipeda handled 17.84 million tonnes of cargo (-13.7 %, year-on-year). In the reported period, loading decreased in all segments (liquid bulk cargo, dry loose, bulk and general cargo.

Transshipment of oil products by Butinge terminal fell 5.6% to 5.7 million tonnes.
