OREANDA-NEWS. February 05, 2010. In 2007 under the initiative of Government of the RK the commodity fish breeding was included in the Agriculture Development priority national project. Such target setting was caused by growth of customer demand for fish breeding products.

According to the Trout-Breeding Developmentin the Republic of Karelia for the period through to 2010 program last year it was planned to grow up 10.5 thousand tons of uneven-ageed trout. Actually fish-breeding trout facilities in 2009 grow up 12950,3 tons.

To provide demand of the population, the Union of Fishing Industrialists of Karelia has made decision to increase production distribution of enterprises comprising this public organization in the home market.

The assigned task was performed successfully. Last year it has been delivered 14.8 thousand tons of commodity fish to the consumer market of the Republic of Karelia, that has 3.5 times exceeded the level of 2008.

Within the scope of inter-regional cooperation, deliveries were carried out to Moscow, St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region, Murmansk. Total supply of commodity food fish production, including canned fish, in these regions in 2009 has made 32,000 tons.

Export of fish cought by fishermen of the republic and abroad proceeds. The basic objects of export are frozen cod and haddock, frozen fillet of the family Gadidae - they account for the share of 81.6%.

The major consumers in 2009 were Norway, China, the British Virgin islands. In 2009 90.9% of all export has fallen to the share of these countries.
