OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2010. State-run association Belaruskali in March 2010 transshipped 360,000 tonnes of potash via the seaport of Klaipeda, in Lithuania, an official at the company told.

Transshipments via Klaipeda were in excess of 50% of Belarusian potash exports in March.

The large volume of transshipments via Klaipeda was due to the best logistics combined with a flexible tariff policy, the official said.

In March 2009, only one shipment of potash was sent via Klaipeda, amounting to 33,000 tonnes.

Belaruskali exported 612,800 tonnes of potash fertilizers in March 2010

Also in March, Belaruskali shipped almost 260,000 tonnes of fertilizers to the domestic market.

Belaruskali’s potash exports fell to 2.948 million tonnes in 2009, down from 6.48 million tonnes in 2008. In 2010, the producer plans to increase exports to 4.9-5.5 million tonnes.

Belaruskali is one of the largest potash makers in the world, employing about 20,000 personnel. The company plans to increase its output to 9.65 million tonnes annually by 2015. Belaruskali accounts for 15.3% of the world potash production.
