OREANDA-NEWS. June 04, 2010. Latvian Railways, LDz Cargo announced it had to raise, due to the fuel price growth, the variable freight tariff by 0.5% to 2.5%  depending on the distance of transportation of cargo. The new tariffs will be effective from July 1, 2010, the Baltic Course reports.

Earlier, Vladislav Shafransky, Manager of Ventspils Grain Terminal has expressed his concern over the rate increase. He said the tariff growth might hit the shipments of grain cargoes via the port of Ventspils, which would no longer be able to compete with its rival, the Klaipeda port in Lithuania.
