OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2010. Uglegorsk, which is planned to become the central city of future Russian Vostochny space port, hosted public hearing on the space port’s ecology on June 17. The hearings were attended not only by officials, but by local citizens as well, totally about 100 persons.

As noted by Vostochny construction minister Konstantin Chmarov, Vostochny is to be built on the basis of ecological safety, since no toxic rocket propellant components are to be banned here. This was defined on the preliminary design stage.

The hearings lasted for several hours, covering many detailed reports by  representatives of Roscosmos and its companies, and other entities involved in the project. The reports told the audience about the technologies and infrastructures to be used in Vostochny, which proved that the space port would be ecologically safe.
