OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2010. A working meeting took place at Vnukovo Airport between the top executives of Dusseldorf International and Vnukovo International Airports, chaired by Lutz Honerla, Vice President, Marketing & Strategy, Dusseldorf International, Vasily Alexandrov, Director General, JSC Vnukovo Airport, and Oleg Vetvinsky, Director General of JSC Vnukovo Handling.

The Parties have noted, in the course of the talks, that the most pressing issue at hand is the establishment of direct air services between the Airports of Dusseldorf and Moscow, Vnukovo. Principal lines of further cooperation between the Airports, as well as exchange of know-how and expertise in the domain of airport operations, joint marketing efforts aimed at a deeper understanding of respective air travel markets with a view to promoting further active growth of air travel between the Airports and the two countries overall.

The issues raised during the negotiations will form the basis of a Memorandum of Understanding to be signed by the two Airports, and the draft of which is currently in the final stages of coordination. The Memorandum itself forms an integral part of the broader Protocol on Cooperation to be signed between the Moscow  City Government and the Dusseldorf City Hall.

As part of the event, the distinguished guest has been offered a guided tour of Vnukovo International which included visits to the Airport's new facilities and infrastructure. In particular, Mr. Honerla has visited the recently-built International Terminal B (commissioned in April, 2004), Russia's first-ever underground airport train station where comfortable high-sped trains terminate that bring in the air travelers from the Airport's midtown Terminal at Kievsky Train Station. Additionally, the foreign guest has been given a detailed on-site presentation of Vnukovo international's brand-new passenger Terminal A, the operational opening of the launch Stage One of which is slated for the nearest term. The air terminal with the impressive total floor space offering of 250000 square meters is bound to become one of Europe's most modern and technologically advanced facilities of its kind. Once Terminal A comes fully on line, the Airport's passenger throughput capacity will expand to a total of  20 million air travelers a year. Dusseldorf International's Vice President also appreciated at first hand the quality of the Airport's roadway access infrastructure, and the speed and convenience it affords during a typical commute from midtown Moscow to the Airport and vice versa.
