OREANDA-NEWS. March 30, 2011. The scientific and practical conference “Chernobyl 25 years on. Mitigation of the Impact in the Union State” will take place in Gomel and Bryansk on 12-15 April, Vasilina Yevseyenko, head of the international cooperation and information department of the National Scientific and Practical Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology, told reporters on 30 March.

Representatives of Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian mass media are currently on the press tour to the Chernobyl-affected districts of Gomel Oblast and the city of Gomel. They will also visit the Institute of Radiology in Gomel and Vetka District.

Vasilina Yevseyenko noted that this conference will be held in the two cities of Belarus and Russia for the first time. Partaking in the conference will be representatives of the Belarusian and Russian Emergencies Ministries, the Chernobyl Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, the Department of Social Policy and Information Support of the Union State Permanent Committee, and other organizations.

The conference will focus on the joint activities of Belarus and Russia to mitigate the Chernobyl impact within the Union State, the rehabilitation of agricultural areas polluted by radiation.
